Research in Apollonia of Illyria by the Albanian-French Archaeological Mission


As part of the Classical Archaeology Seminar series, François Quantin (École Pratique des Hautes Études – PSL) will present the research conducted by the Albanian-French archaeological mission in Apollonia of Illyria. The seminar will open with welcoming remarks from the coordinator of the doctoral school Maria Teresa D’Alessio, followed by an introduction by Julian Bogdani. A discussion with attendees, moderated by Julian Bogdani and Enrico Giorgi, will follow.

The seminar is primarily intended for PhD students in Classical Archaeology but is open to all interested participants. François Quantin, Professor of Religions de la Grèce ancienne: espaces, cultes, institutions at the École Pratique des Hautes Études – PSL, will present the work of the Albanian-French archaeological mission in Apollonia of Illyria, which he co-directs in collaboration with the Institute of Archaeology of Tirana and the École Française d'Athènes (EFA). The mission explores the history and topography of the Greek colony from its foundation to the early Byzantine period, employing geophysical surveys, stratigraphic excavations, and the study of archaeological materials.
