Round table on Power Analysis (moderated by Riccardo Villa)

Talk 1 - Choosing effect sizes from previous studies
- Smallest effect or average of effects?
- Why can't we do a posteriori power analysis?
- Should we discuss significant results if the effect size is not big enough?

Talk 2 - Superpower for R
Pros
- no need for past effect size of variance
- corrects for multiple comparisons in exploratory ANOVA
- provides power for main effect and also interactions
Cons
- not for ANCOVA or mixed models

Talk 3 - PASS software
- seems very cool for mixed models... worth the expense?
- simR: free package for R with similar function?

Talk 4 - power for fMRI
- Alisha didn't take notes
Final big question: why power analysis?
- avoiding Type II error
- missing out on important findings!
