Research activities: 30 CFU

Activities approved by the Board of Professors: 5 CFU
Theory seminars for both curricula.
Monthly lab scientific meetings.
Seminars of visiting scholars/professors.


Method of choosing the subject of the thesis

One tutor is assigned to each student which will supervise the PhD path and guide its development supporting the student improvement. A specific topic of research will be chosen as for the final thesis in line with the research lines of the programme.
The topic of the thesis must be agreed with the Board of Professors within the CoSAN and POP research lines by the first 3 months of the PhD.


Admission to the second year

Passing from the I to the II year is dependent on the following requisites:
1) Achievement of a minimum of 40/60 CFU for participation to seminars, courses, and research activities. Only for CoSAN curriculum: participation to at least 8 lab meetings, organized by the SCN Lab (Prof. Aglioti). Furthermore, each student will be asked to present their work in 1 lab meeting;
2) Approval by the PhD Board of Professors of the research project.

Method of preparation of the thesis

Development of studies for the final dissertation:
1) Finding a reference model;
2) Research Hypothesis and preliminary statistics;
3) Data recording.


Admission to the third year

Passing from the II to the III year is dependent on the following requisites:
1) Achievement of a minimum of 40/60 CFU for participation to seminars, courses, and research activities. Only for CoSAN curriculum: participation to at least 8 lab meetings, organized by the SCN Lab (Prof. Aglioti). Furthermore, each student will be asked to present their work in 1 lab meeting;
2) During the second year the students becomes more responsible for the design of the experimental procedures/protocols, data collection and analysis and dissemination. It is desirable that data collection is in an advanced phase;
3) Approval by the PhD Board of Professors of the studies for the final dissertation;
4) Period in a partner italian/foreign University. Duration of the period abroad between 6 and 18 months.

Method of admission to the final examination

In order to be admitted to the final exam, students must have:
1) published at least one paper on an international (peer reviewed) journal in the area of her project and thesis;
2) completed the writing of the PhD thesis;
3) obtained the approval by the thesis external reviewers, from their tutor and by the PhD Board of Professors;
4) completed their period abroad or in partner University.


Final examination

The candidate will discuss her thesis in english, in front of a committee made of national/international experts in the field of research of the PhD.
