Power efficiency is a key aspect in computer systems both in high-end servers and in portable devices.
The focus of this talk is to discuss how the numerical formats of data impacts the energy efficiency of the computation, and how to trade-off accuracy with power savings.
Machine Learning and Deep Learning are used as case studies to present the key ideas and the benefits derived by a flexible format to represent numerical data.
