Admission Procedure

Written examination The written examination topics will be selected from sets of three proposed by the Examination Committee and will concern issues and subjects related to contemporary architectural design, with references to the broad theoretical framework encompassing the disciplines connected to it.
The topics will primarily address matters of architectural theory and technique, universal elements, the city, interior spaces, and architectural and urban installations. These themes are intended to allow candidates to demonstrate their argumentative skills and critical thinking, which are essential for undertaking a doctoral path in education and research.
Upon declaring their intention to follow one of the two curricular profiles, candidates will be assigned two different examination prompts. Written essays may be supplemented with impromptu drawings and additional bio-bibliographical references, allowing for a comprehensive evaluation of the candidates’ research aptitude.

Candidates who obtained at least 36/60 in the written test are admitted to the oral exam.
language ITALIANO

Oral interview The oral examination will focus not only on general topics and issues related to the theories and practices of contemporary design, but also on themes that emerged during the written test.
Part of the examination will consist of a discussion of a portfolio, which candidates must present in hard copy at the time of the oral exam. The portfolio should include a selection of the candidate’s own projects—academic, professional, or competition-related—chosen as representative of their research interests and aptitude for architectural design.
In addition to design projects, the portfolio may also include information on activities such as exhibition curatorship, participation in conferences, research and editorial work, or any other elements the candidate considers relevant to present as part of their background.
An additional element for discussion and evaluation will be the proposal of a potential research topic, to be presented in the form of a reasoned outline.
The examination will be conducted in Italian and will include an assessment of the candidate’s knowledge of the English language.

The minimum positive score for the oral test is 22/60.

Qualifications assessment The qualifications subject to evaluation include the final degree mark and any previous research experience, such as collaboration contracts, research training courses, or study periods carried out at academic institutions (including Erasmus experiences).
