The Doctoral Course is divided into four curricula:
HISTORY OF ARCHITECTURE. The aim of the curriculum is to train in the use and methods of historical-architectural scientific research in use in the international community. The history of architectural organisms, examined in their diachronic development, in fact also interferes with questions of the historical-artistic disciplines in general, the history of criticism and science, the history of construction techniques and of structural organism and the history of esthetics. The possible fields of study are, among the most significant, the complex methods of acquisition and treatment of information on existing architecture, the analysis of archival sources, the history of architectural historiography, the history of transformations of single buildings or of groups of them, the history of cities, territories and landscapes.
REPRESENTATION. The aim of the curriculum is to train scientific research in the field of descriptive geometry, digital graphics, architectural drawing, surveying, documentation and critical reading of the architectural heritage, urban space and landscape. To this end, training activities are organized that cover very articulated fields of interest, including, as examples, the acquisition, processing and dissemination of data aimed at representing information on architecture, urban space and the landscape, their integration and management also aimed at communication and valorisation of the latter.
RESTORATION. The aim of the curriculum is to train in the deepening and use of scientific research methods aimed at understanding the relationship between theories and practice of conservation and restoration of existing architectural organisms. The research projects are aimed at questions of a theoretical nature and of conservation and restoration at various scales. Among the lines of study, mention should be made of the knowledge of current trends in restoration theory and practice, the history of architectural, structural and urban restoration, issues relating to technological systems, the restoration of contemporary architecture and archaeological assets, the museography, to the integration in various ways of the conservation project with the architectural project.
HISTORY, REPRESENTATION AND RESTORATION OF ARCHITECTURE. Carried out in English, the curriculum focuses on themes of Built Cultural Heritage, having as its object the city of Rome as a whole in the Contemporary Age, examined both for its architectural heritage of a historical nature and for all its other more or less parts recent. The aim of the curriculum is to train in the use and dissemination of the most advanced and internationally consolidated methods of acquisition, data processing and design, relating to the built heritage of a more traditional historical nature, but also applied to more recent and continuous transformation.
