Educational goals and objectives

PHYSICS
The Ph.D. in Physics is aimed at training scientific researchers with broad general knowledge, and therefore with full flexibility concerning any future choice, and with high professional qualifications in all the disciplinary fields in which physics research is active today. The goal is to bring doctoral students to levels of preparation and autonomy suitable for their placement in national and international scientific and technological research institutions, as well as in management roles in companies that require problem-solving skills. Aimed at these goals is the educational offering of the Ph.D. program, which consists of an initial period devoted mainly to advanced courses and a subsequent phase concerning a research activity in a specific field.

Admission Procedure

Written examination The purpose of the written test is to assess the applicant's knowledge and skills in the basic topics of Physics and their aptitude for scientific research. The written test is evaluated with a maximum of 50 points. Candidates who score at least 24 points in the written evaluation are admitted to further evaluation.
In the written test, one exercise in Mechanics and one in Electromagnetism will be presented from which the candidate must choose one, as well as one exercise in Quantum Mechanics and one in Statistical Mechanics from which the candidate must choose one.
A syllabus with the topics covered in the written test is available on the PhD in Physics website
(https://phd.uniroma1.it/web/PHYSICS_nD3503_EN.aspx).
