Spaces and equipment available to doctoral students

The Department has three classrooms used for lectures, seminars, workshops, and meetings. The classrooms are equipped with IT tools to support distance learning. In particular, the Renzi Classroom on the third floor is dedicated to PhD activities, with 18 available seats.

Four PhD rooms are located in the different wings of the Department of Management:

  • WING B, third floor, room 8: 4 networked PCs for the Management curriculum;
  • WING C, third floor, rooms 15 and 25: 5 workstations with Wi-Fi access for the Banking curriculum;
  • WING E, first floor, room 4 and ground floor, room 5: 8 workstations with Wi-Fi access for the Commodity Sciences curriculum;
  • WING E, first floor: Computer lab available to PhD students with 12 workstations for data processing, remote connections, and the use of software and databases.

Research activities supported by virtual reality technologies are currently being launched. To this end, the Department is equipping itself with the necessary technologies to establish a Metaverse and Virtual Reality laboratory, which will be available to faculty members and PhD students.






Commodity Science Laboratory: a chemical laboratory designed to provide specialized training not only to students and PhD candidates, but also to public and private professionals working in the field of product quality. Several research groups operate within the laboratory and have access to the following equipment:

Preparative laboratory with 20 workstations and 4 fume hoods, two of which have been recently replaced with high-efficiency models.

Analytical instrumentation:

  • Double-beam UV-Vis spectrophotometers

  • Atomic absorption spectrophotometers

  • Gas chromatograph / mass spectrometer (GC-MS)

  • Gas chromatograph / electron capture detector (GC-ECD)

  • HPLC chromatographs equipped with UV, DAD, fluorescence, and conductivity detectors



 

The Museum of Commodities is housed in the premises of the Department of Management, covering a total area of approximately 270 square metres. The artefacts displayed in 50 showcases and catalogued in the inventory number approximately 6,000. The Museum is currently in the final phase of renovation, after which it will feature 12 large display cases and 5 low display cases, a textile room, a reconstruction of Prof. Villavecchia's study, and 2 large study tables with 25 workstations.
 

Software and Databases

Qualtrics, SurveyMonkey and SurveySparrow: software platforms for creating surveys, quizzes and polls for a wide range of audiences.

Digital Innovation Observatory Platform of the School of Management at Politecnico di Milano: a multimedia and multichannel platform for the continuous professional development of managers on the new skills required to drive digital transformation.

Refinitiv is a global Anglo-American provider of financial market data and infrastructure.

SimaPro: software for conducting LCA (Life Cycle Assessment) and EPD (Environmental Product Declaration) studies in accordance with ISO standards.

AIDA Database (Computerised Analysis of Italian Companies), developed and distributed by Bureau van Dijk, contains the financial statements, registry data and commodity information of all active Italian capital companies (excluding banks, insurance companies and public entities).

SmartPLS: software with a graphical user interface for variance-based structural equation modelling using the Partial Least Squares (PLS) modelling method.
