Scientific Board
The members of the PhD scientific board are responsible for teaching, supervising research activities, and evaluating PhD students.

Thesis Topic Selection
During the first year, PhD students identify their scientific interests to define their thesis topic. Research activities are guided by a supervisor (and possibly a co-supervisor selected at the end of the first year in coordination with the Coordinator and the Curriculum Coordinator, and approved by the PhD Board.
Access to the final examination requires a positive assessment by the PhD Board regarding the student’s three-year progress and the original research findings documented in the doctoral thesis. The dissertation is subsequently evaluated by two external reviewers.

Annual Assessment for Year Progression
At the end of each year, PhD student submit a report detailing their activities, including:
- Courses attended, final exam results, and seminars (as both attendee and speaker) within the defined training plan;
- Summer schools or specific courses related to the individual research path;
- Attendance at national and international conferences, workshops, and scientific events as an attendee or speaker;
- Participation in scientific organization activities;
- Teaching activities performed;
- Study periods in Italy and abroad;
 - A summary of research activities;
- Thesis project progress (for second and third-year candidates);
- Publications.
The PhD Coordinator and the Curriculum Coordinators review this report, alongside final course results and feedback from supervisors. Following this review, the PhD Board grants official approval for progression to the following year.
