ANNUAL REPORT A.Y. 2023-24
Cycle XXXIX (First year)
The activities of the first year PhD students (39th cycle) were mainly focused on training activities, which included attending both basic and specialised courses and passing the relevant assessment tests. An integral part of the training is the attendance of departmental seminars (see the 'Seminars' tab for a full list), which allow students to come into contact with internationally renowned scholars and researchers who are experts in highly multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary topics.
Thanks to an international agreement, one PhD student from the Demography curriculum spent nine months abroad to attend courses at the European Doctoral School of Demography (EDSD) in Paris (France).
At the same time, PhD students funded by external fellowships and PNRR fellowships made contact with the related institutes to initiate their project-specific activities.
As an interdisciplinary organisational activity, two PhD students were members of the scientific and organising committee of the "XI PhD Day of the School of Statistical Sciences", which took place in the Department on 6 June 2024.
Already in their first year, the majority of PhD students in cycle XXXIX started their research activities and actively participated in numerous conferences where they presented their first research results and published their work in conference proceedings and/or journals:

Cycle XXXVIII (Second year)
The second year PhD students (38th cycle), in addition to their specialised training courses and summer schools, largely attended the Department's seminar series (see the 'Seminars' tab for a full list). A number of PhD students spent a research period abroad to further their thesis-related research.
The PhD student funded by a PNRR fellowship spent the planned period in the institution, and the PhD students funded by external scholarships actively collaborated with the research groups of the funding bodies, defining and working on the specific activities of their projects.
Most of the PhD students presented their research results at events organised at the Department of Statistical Sciences to promote the exchange of ideas between young researchers and students from different disciplines. In particular, the workshop of the “School in Statistical Sciences” was organised by the PhD students themselves from the different cycles and curricula: “XI PhD Day of the School of Statistical Sciences, Department of Statistical Sciences (Sapienza), 06/06/2024”.
In addition, the second year PhD students have presented the progress of their research work at many national and international conferences and workshops and have also produced many publications in journals and/or edited volumes:

Cycle XXXVII (Third year)
PhD students in the 37th cycle focused their third year on their research project for their theses. They largely attended the Department's seminar series (see the ‘Seminars’ tab) as well as seminars, workshops and courses on the specific topics of their research. Most of them (eight out of ten) presented their research activities and the progress of their theses at the 11th Doctoral Day organised by the Department of Statistical Sciences (06/06/2024).
The third year PhD students actively participated in many national and international conferences, presenting contributions (including invited papers) related to their research activities and produced publications in international journals and edited volumes:
