L’International Joint PhD in Social Representations, Culture and Communication è un programma di Dottorato internazionale, inter/trans-disciplinare ed intersettoriale rivolto alla formazione avanzata nell’ambito delle scienze sociali. L’area di interesse del Dottorato si situa all’intersezione tra Teoria delle Rappresentazioni Sociali, Studi Culturali e Studi sulla Comunicazione. Il Dottorato nasce per rispondere alle sfide poste dai cosiddetti wicked problems alle scienze sociali in relazione ad alcuni dei principali processi di trasformazione globale in corso: sostenibilità ambientale e transizione ecologica, relazioni interculturali e cambiamenti nell’ambito della salute e dell’educazione, processi di democratizzazione e costruzione della cittadinanza, diversity communication and inclusion, con un interesse particolare rivolto al ruolo dei media e dell’innovazione. Il Dottorato promuove ricerche sulla dimensione simbolica e rappresentazionale alla base di queste tematiche, attraverso una pluralità di metodi di indagine. Il fine è sviluppare modelli interpretativi del cambiamento e strategie di intervento contestualmente valide e in grado di incidere sulla realtà e sulle politiche socio-culturali.
Il Dottorato, coordinato da Sapienza, è sviluppato congiuntamente con la
Università Alexandru Ioan Cuza, Iași (Romania) e la
Università di Pécs (Ungheria) ed è regolato da Accordi Inter-Istituzionali, come già definito dal Decreto MIUR n. 94 (pubblicato l’8 febbraio 2013), dal DM 226/2021 e recepite dall’art. 27 del regolamento Sapienza (Dottorati Internazionali), e dalle più recenti disposizioni ministeriali .
Esperienza univa a livello internazionale, il dottorato coinvolge e rilancia una rete già consolidata di docenti afferenti a prestigiose Università e Centri di ricerca internazionali, che rende questo programma un punto di riferimento per una vasta comunità scientifica nell’ambito delle scienze sociali.

FONDAMENTI TEORICI
Il Dottorato si innesta sulla solida tradizione degli studi sulle Rappresentazioni Sociali aprendosi a, e intersecandosi con, i più recenti sviluppi degli Studi Culturali e della Comunicazione. Il Dottorato è orientato alla ricerca inter/trans-disciplinare sulle dinamiche socio-simboliche di costruzione sociale della realtà, sul ruolo dei media come attori culturali, e sulle relazioni tra conoscenza “esperta” e conoscenza elaborata nei contesti di “vita quotidiana”. Combinando formazione online ed in presenza e prassi di supervisione congiunta in un milieu internazionale, il Dottorato intende fornire una solida preparazione teorica e metodologica sia per la continuazione nell’ambito della ricerca in Italia o all’estero, sia per l’inserimento in settori lavorativi applicati pubblici e privati.
OBIETTIVI FORMATIVI
Il percorso formativo e di ricerca è finalizzato a fornire alle dottorande e ai dottorandi strumenti concettuali, metodologie e tecniche di ricerca necessarie per la comprensione dei processi comunicativi, culturali e psico-sociali di costruzione sociale della realtà.

Dottorande e dottorandi dovranno acquisire conoscenze avanzate e capacità di comprensione dei processi di elaborazione e strutturazione delle rappresentazioni sociali e dei relativi processi comunicativi interpersonali, di gruppo e societari, anche in relazione a diversi sistemi sociali e culturali ed alle dinamiche identitarie. Il percorso formativo fornirà conoscenze avanzate negli ambiti della teoria delle rappresentazioni sociali e dei suoi più recenti sviluppi, delle scienze della comunicazione, dei cultural studies, della psicologia culturale e degli studi sociali in ambito di educazione e sviluppo. Alle dottorande e ai dottorandi e sarà richiesto inoltre di sviluppare competenze e soft skills rilevanti negli ambiti della progettazione, della comunicazione scientifica, divulgativa e delle relazioni pubbliche.
Ulteriore obiettivo del Dottorato è favorire la capacità di applicare le conoscenze acquisite sia in ambito di ricerca che in ambiti pubblici e privati che richiedono esperti/e in aree delle scienze sociali e comunicative ad elevata valenza applicativa. Tramite un’ampia offerta di formazione alla ricerca inerente vari ambiti tematici, contesti sociali nazionali e internazionali, e attraverso occasioni di mobilità internazionale e relazioni anche con soggetti extra-accademici, le dottorande e i dottorandi saranno incoraggiati ad esplorare possibilità in vari ambiti professionali, quali ad esempio: istituzioni e centri di ricerca; media e agenzie di comunicazione e informazione; istituzioni e industrie culturali; associazioni e organizzazioni sociali, socio-sanitarie e ambientali; istituzioni politiche; imprese operative nei settori dell’innovazione tecnologica e mediale.
Le modalità didattiche con cui verranno perseguiti tali risultati combinano percorsi online a distanza ed in presenza, mobilità internazionale obbligatoria, ed attività di ricerca con più supervisor internazionali, che garantiranno una esposizione formativa e opportunità collaborative di ricerca e di scambio con un’ampia comunità scientifica multi-generazionale di rinomati/e studiosi/e in vari continenti. Il percorso didattico include: lezioni frontali, seminari di approfondimento, settimane intensive, lavori di ricerca individuale e di gruppo, presentazioni delle fasi di avanzamento, discussioni collegiali e revisione tra pari. Sono altresì previste attività formative per l’acquisizione di competenze tecnico-applicative, e attività di formazione alla progettazione finalizzata alla presentazione di richieste di finanziamenti per ricerca su bandi competitivi in ambito europeo e nazionale.
Sul
PIANO EPISTEMOLOGICO ED ONTOLOGICO, il Dottorato si incardina nella ricca produzione scientifica riguardante le interrelazioni tra costruzione sociale della conoscenza (nelle sue diverse declinazioni) e strumenti e forme della comunicazione contemporanea.
Facendo propri tanto un approccio nomotetico quanto uno ideografico, il Dottorato si propone di contribuire all’elaborazione di modelli teorici generali e all’esplorazione di dinamiche contestuali della relazione mente-cultura-comunicazione. La teoria delle Rappresentazioni Sociali, le prospettive Culturaliste e gli studi della Comunicazione forniscono il quadro di riferimento privilegiato entro cui investigare le dinamiche di interazione tra individui, gruppi, istituzioni, in relazione con l’ambiente e con i diversi sistemi di mediazione e comunicazione.
L’obiettivo epistemologico ed ontologico è sviluppare un ambito di studi pienamente interdisciplinare. Le ricerche esamineranno la relazione tra costruzione della realtà e pratiche sociali, sistema polifonico dei media, posizionamento e ancoraggio a contesti storico-culturali, differenziandosi da un lato dagli approcci orientati alle cognizioni individuali come forme a-storiche e de-contestualizzate, e dall’altro dagli studi di conversazione e discorso come sistemi referenziali.
Se rappresentazioni sociali, frame, narrazioni, discorso costituiscono ormai concetti e strumenti consolidati nella cassetta degli attrezzi delle scienze sociali, sia in ambito psico-sociale sia sociologico, la sfida è oggi indagare e comprendere le relazioni tra tali modelli e le dinamiche di elaborazione e cambiamento in una realtà profondamente mediatizzata, in cui un ecosistema mediale sempre più pervasivo, convergente e distribuito è divenuto il terreno imprescindibile per l’analisi di ogni fenomeno comunicativo e culturale, del legame tra esperienza soggettiva della relazione e il suo aspetto collettivo e sociale. Un progetto culturale fondato su tale approccio, se ha nella psicologia e nella sociologia i campi del sapere fondanti, “naturalmente” convoca come alleati diversi approcci disciplinari, da integrarsi in modo trasversale e complementare.
A partire da questo fondamento, il Dottorato intende affrontare e perseguire punti di contatto e differenze con gli approcci di ricerca nazionali ed internazionali che negli anni recenti hanno esplorato tipologie analoghe di processi di costruzione sociale, tra cui studi culturali e linguistici, sociologia culturale, frame analysis, narrative and critical discourse analyisis, etc. Il Dottorato si propone quindi come luogo di avanzamento teorico attraverso lo studio di rappresentazioni sociali e costrutti culturali della sfera simbolica (nella molteplicità di forme con cui si producono nell’interazione umana e nelle culture, e con cui li riconoscono branche diverse della letteratura scientifica: simboli, metafore, senso comune, frame, immagini…) che forniscono senso all’esperienza orientando le interpretazioni, e dunque indirizzando l’azione, l’interazione e le relazioni sociali.
Quanto alle
TEMATICHE, il Dottorato rivolge la propria attenzione – nelle linee di articolazione dell’offerta formativa – a problemi complessi e tematiche socialmente rilevanti nel contesto delle società globali, mediatizzate e culturalmente frammentate:
- Sostenibilità ambientale e transizione ecologica, con riferimento in primo luogo ai Sustainable Development Goals ed ai processi di transizione energetica, percezione del rischio e innovazioni socio-tecnologiche;
- Migrazioni e relazioni interculturali, con riferimento per esempio a processi discorsivi di costruzione delle relazioni intergruppi, stereotipizzazione e inclusione, pratiche di empowerment, agency e advocacy in ambiti sensibili quali salute ed educazione;
- Processi di democratizzazione, patrimonio culturale e costruzione della cittadinanza, tra cui analisi del discorso istituzionale e psicologia politica, populismo, comunicazione e affettivizzazione della sfera pubblica, potere, peace psychology, progetti di cambiamento e innovazione culturale;
- Diversity communication and inclusion, con riferimento in particolare al ruolo dei media e al discorso giornalistico nei processi di framing e di contrasto alla discriminazione, di donne, minoranze di orientamento sessuale, portatori di disabilità ed altre categorie vulnerabili.
Per quanto riguarda la
METODOLOGIA, il campo di ricerca, e quindi il Dottorato, consente una formazione pluralista. Riprendendo il dibattito tra modelli di triangolazione ed approcci multi-metodo ai dottorandi e alle dottorande saranno fornite competenze relative a diversi disegni di ricerca, per l’analisi strutturale e dinamica delle rappresentazioni sociali, del discorso quotidiano, della comunicazione in relazione a social issues di natura locale e globale. Le dottorande ed i dottorandi saranno posti in grado di implementare tecniche e strumenti quali-quantitativi all’analisi del testo, tecniche di raccolta dati basati su canali comunicativi multipli (linguaggio orale, testuale, iconico-figurativo, multimodalità…), approcci discorsivi e conversazionali, prospettive di analisi critica e dialogica, metodologie sociologiche, etnografiche, e strumenti per lo studio delle dinamiche culturali e comunicative nell’ecosistema mediale contemporaneo.
