Sapienza University of Rome – in compliance with the resolution of the Academic Senate of November 10, 2020 – on October 19, 2021, has conferred the Doctorate honoris causa in Civilizations of Asia and Africa, Curriculum in Arabic, Iranian, and Islamic Studies, on Mohsen Ashtiany “for the services he has generously rendered to Iranian studies with his lifelong work – in particular with the monumental commented translation of the History of Beyhaqi and his distinguished activity as an associate editor of the Encyclopaedia Iranica (New York) and as a member of the editorial board of the prestigious History of Persian Literature in 18 volumes – as well as for the widespread recognition that the quality of his research has earned him in the scholarly community and in the Iranian intellectual diaspora.” The event's brochure is available here:
