Educational goals and objectives

PUBLIC, COMPARATIVE AND INTERNATIONAL LAW
The Phd course resumes a prestigious tradition of public law studies at the University of Rome and aims to train specialists in research on public law subjects. The richness of the study profiles is clearly delineated by the articulation of the PhD course into four different curricula, named as follows: a) Administrative Law of the Environment and Public Health; b) Italian and Comparative Constitutional Law and Political Institutions; c) Public Law of Economics; d) International Law and Human Rights.
The aim of the PhD course is to provide tools and keys to understanding the various profiles of public law, with a particular focus on the issues of Italian and comparative constitutional law, administrative law of the environment, also with reference to the related profiles of public health protection, economic law and human rights in the perspective of international law. At the end of the three years, the Phd student acquires skills in the development of public law research, knowledge of the topics relating to the various profiles of public law, the ability to organise and develop scientific arguments, mastery of the legal methodologies of analysis and skills in presenting critical assessments. In addition to this, through the promotion of public speaking opportunities and collegial work, the Phd student acquires communication skills and skills in the presentation of his or her own ideas, as well as skills in the management of social relations in a competitive study context.
To this end, the Phd program constantly organises seminar activities and conferences, also defined according to homogeneous themes. Particularly in the first year, training activities are organised to strengthen the legal foundations of the Phd candidates' preparation, the deepening of legal methodologies of study and research, as well as training activities in Legal English. The doctoral students are constantly urged to check on new legislation and case law, also in order to participate in reviews for publication in scientific journals. The three-year period of time available is also spent conducting in-depth research with reference to the legal institutions chosen for the thesis, according to a method that can outline both historical evolution and comparative research.
