Erik Wallrup, "Musical affectivity as a historical problem/possibility"

Educational seminars in HISTORY AND ANALYSIS OF MUSIC CULTURES Wednesday 16/10/2024 – 14.30-18.30 pm Aula dottorato 3° piano di palazzo Giusso Dipartimento di Scienze Umane e Sociali Università degli Studi di Napoli “L’Orientale” Largo San Giovanni Maggiore, 30 80134 Napoli

16/10/2024 ore 14,30-18,30

The affectivity of music is a confused field. An evasive subjectivity is involved too a very high degree, so if we add a historical dimension, everything becomes even more complicated. Period instruments can be used in historically informed interpretations, old playing techniques can be re-established – but the affectivity of the past seems to be out of reach for the modern mind. At this seminar, I shall discuss the problematical aspects of any return to past affectivities and subjectivities, but also see if these problems can turn into possibilities or even promises.
