In a context such as that of the so-called "inland areas", where permanent residents are progressively decreasing in favor of temporary forms of living, who are the local communities composed of today? How does temporary living take place in these territories and with what social-spatial effects?
In an attempt to find answers to these questions, the seminar intends to address the controversial issue of second homes and the forms of housing underlying it. The Phenomenon appears to be one of the main drivers of mobility and interdependence between cities and mountain areas today, and seems to have found further acceleration in the pandemic. Starting from the restitution of some ongoing researches we will problematize the tourism of second homes both from a critical point of view (by questioning it according to the interpretative keys of the most recent studies on Rural Gentrification), and in terms of its potential to bring practices of preservation and care.
