Robert J. Coplan - “Speaking Up for the Quiet Ones: The Development and Implications of Shyness in Childhood”
13 giugno 2024
For many children, it is a common experience to feel wary or nervous when
meeting new people or feeling like they are the centre of attention. However,
extremely shy children routinely experience fear and anxiety in social contexts to
a degree that hinders their abilities to interact with others. This presentation will
describe a program of research that has examined the role of shyness in
children’s social, emotional, and academic development, including: (1) what is
shyness? (2) why might we worry about shy children? (3) what factors impact
upon the development of shyness in childhood? and (4) how can we best assist
and support shy children to help them reach their potential?
