Seminar by prof. Raimondo Guarino
09/03/2023 15 pm, Aula E, Via dei Volsci 122
The seminar aims at opening new perspectives on a well known subject: the encounter of thinking on motions and perception, drawing, dance and photography sealed in the text Tanzkurven (1926), written by Kandinskij and illustrated with his drawings inspired by the pictures of the dancer Gret Palucca shot by Charlotte Rudolph. The inquiry involves the crucial experiences on dance and photography led by Rudolph and her master Hugo Erfurth; contexts and texts related to Kandinskij and Arnheim; and the whole amount of sources (visual and biographical) about Palucca. The wider scope of the research is the interplay of visual cultures and “arts of movement” in Germany during the second and third decades of the 20th century, between Ausdruckstanz and Bauhaus.
