OF OTHER GAZES. THE USE OF AUDIOVISUAL TOOLS IN BUILDING NEW WAYS OF INVESTIGATING AND NARRATING MARGINAL TERRITORIES

26 February 2021

organized by Giovanni Attili, Lidia Decandia, Marco Leonetti, Alberto Marzo

with: Gaetano Crivaro, Margherita Pisano

Inner areas offer an emblematic example of how dominant narratives shape planning and design. Worn-out representations, based on an urban/rural and coastal/inner dichotomy now unsuitable to describe the complexity of territorial dynamics, still appear to be prevalent, directing the gaze - and the action - towards the standardization and trivialization of tourism. Yet, small anti-stories of resistance and creative imagination are opposing the prevailing narration. The seminar therefore aims to give space to such alternative narratives, and in particular to those created by Margherita Pisano and Gaetano Crivaro through audio/visual media, offering the opportunity not only to reflect on the performative possibilities of territorial representations of Sardinia, but also to nourish the design imaginary and to reach a renewed awareness of the hidden potential in marginal areas.
