The last century saw the gradual start, from 1928, of a silent revolution: the introduction of digital principles in gradual superimposition and then replacement of the analogical ones, that dominated human culture from the Sumerians onwards. And even in the microcosm of performing arts culture, the consequences are gradually felt. Scientific research in the field of performance is destined to change profoundly in relation to the new possibilities offered by digital technologies. We will therefore try to identify some basic points of the evolutionary changes of research in this field, through fifty years of experience of the author in this regard. (F. Marotti)
