The inclusion of music among the "fine arts" at the birth of aesthetic science entails questions about musical knowledge and its relation to philosophy, which do not always coincide with those concerning the other arts and which, even today, even with the different, necessary and natural distinctions, can stimulate a reflection of method that might be useful in the choices and work of those interested in music.
