The seminar aims to explore the intricate relationship between cinema and ecology, with a specific focus on the Italian context, utilizing theories and practices developed in the United States. Elena Past, a distinguished professor in Italian Studies at Wayne State University in Detroit, will deliver a doctoral lecture discussing the progress of her research in the field of Environmental Humanities. She will commence with an analysis of the film "Il Giovane Favoloso" (Martone, 2014), engaging with emerging perspectives and research methodologies in Italy. Prof. Past specializes in the application of ecocriticism to Italian cinema and literature (Past, E., Italian Ecocinema Beyond the Human, Indiana University Press, 2019). The book Antropocine, lo schermo verde. Manuale di percorsi e idee per un Italian Ecocinema (Altreconomia, 2023), will be presented before the meeting by the author Marino Midena.
