Educational goals and objectives

NATIONAL PHD IN ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE
The National PhD in Artificial Intelligence (Phd-AI.it) concerns a central theme for digital transformation of society. It aims to mobilize the national community for a PhD in AI at the highest scientific level, such as to boost research and the country's industrial and social innovation. The PhD-AI.it is implemented, with the coordination of the CNR and the University of Pisa, with the establishment of 5 federated AI doctorates, organized by a university leader and a large consortium of universities and research institutions. Doctorates have a common base focused on the foundational aspects of AI e 5 areas of specialization: •
Government and public bodies, Sapienza University of Rome
• Health and life sciences, University Campus Bio-Medico of Rome
• Agrifood and environment, University of Naples Federico II
• Society, University of Pisa.

Specific objectives of the PhD-AI are:
• Build a community of young researchers in training and AI researchers distributed at a territorial and disciplinary level;
• Encourage the exchange of multi-disciplinary experiences between the nodes of the network through the periods of didactic and research mobility of the PhD students;
• Integrate and strengthen the Italian network of AI research centers, also in relation to the European ICT-48-H2020 program "Towards a vibrant European network of AI excellence centers ”and the European human-centered and trustworthy AI development strategy.

Admission Procedure

Only the candidates who scored 18/30 at the Evaluation of Qualifications will access the evaluation of the project proposal.

Project Proposal The project proposal should be at max 4 pages, written in English using the ieee template available at this address: "https://github.com/bardsoftware/template-ieee-transactions/blob/master/IEEEtran.cls". It should illustrate how the candidate intends to advance the state of the art within some domain of AI. We will evaluate:
a) the relevance of the topic in accordance to the line of research of the fellowship chosen by the candidate
b) the proper coverage of the state of the art w.r.t the literature
c) the originality
d) the technical strength
e) the feasibility of the proposal, considering the time span of 3 years of the PhD program.
In writing the proposal the candidate should not excessively use Generative AI tools. Doing so would result in a negative evaluation.

Only the candidates who scored 18/30 at the Project's evaluation will access the colloquium.

Oral interview The colloquium will consist of a (short) presentation on the project proposal.
The duration of the colloquium will be decided after the call is closed, and communicated at least three days before the colloquium takes place.
Furthermore, the committee will assess the technical strength of the candidate in different areas of AI and Computer Science.
The colloquium is passed with a minimum of 20/40 points.
