Eventi recenti hanno messo in luce l'importanza delle interazioni fra pericoli industriali e rischi naturali (NATECH), come il rischio sismico in impianti industriali con pericolo di incidente rilevante. Una corretta valutazione, mitigazione e anche monitoraggio del rischio sismico consentono una significativa riduzione dei pericoli e delle loro conseguenze. L'evento sismico, attraverso le interazioni con unità di processo e le apparecchiature, può causare danni simultanei e innescare molteplici rilasci di sostanze pericolose che possono causare un incidente rilevante (emissione, incendio o esplosione). I componenti industriali vulnerabili al sisma che possono essere gravemente danneggiati e avere gravi conseguenze includono i serbatoi sia pressione sia atmosferici e i sistemi di tubazioni.

Recent events have highlighted the importance of the interactions between industrial and natural disasters (NATECH), as the seismic risk in vulnerable industrial plants. A correct assessment, mitigation and even monitoring of the seismic risk allow a significant reduction of the dangers and their consequences. The seismic event, through interactions with process units and equipment, can cause simultaneous damages by triggering multiple releases of hazardous materials that can lead to a major accident (emission, fire or explosion). Vulnerable industrial components that can be severely damaged and have serious consequences include vessels, tanks and piping systems

Qualifications assessment Concerning the qualifications, the following will be taken into consideration: final mark of the master degree (the average of marks of passed exams for graduands) and the marks obtained in the relevant exams for the two curricular disciplines; curriculum and motivation to undertake the PhD course; any publication, experience abroad, reference letter (max 2); acknowledgements/awards.

Oral interview The oral exam, following the evaluation by qualification, will concern a discussion on: the presented qualifications; the fundamental topics of the disciplines Solids and Structural Mechanics, Structural Engineering or Geotechnics (depending on the curriculum selected by the candidate); the candidate's study and research interests, also through the discussion of the master's degree thesis. The knowledge of the English language of all candidates will be verified and, for foreign candidates, the basic knowledge of the Italian language will be also verified.
