In the lecture I will talk about the relationship between precarity and artistic work, showing how the contradictory dynamics of precariousness is intertwined with the concern for care in art practice, which has been developing in performance and visual field in the last decades. In the recent decade, the awareness of the crisis of sustainability of life also reached the art field, with the recognition of the precarity of the lives of artists. Artists and institutions, in which artists are working, became more aware about the different aspects of social reproduction, and the ways, how the flexible, instable and unsecure mode of production continuously clashes with the ways of living. Experimentation with the labor of artists became more visible and that is why also the search for the new ways to collaborate, self-organization and experimentation with organization are in the core of many artistic processes. The focus on vulnerability and precariousness is not only part of the processes of work in arts, but also is also defines how artists organize, show and share their work. Care, vulnerability, precarity, became namely in the last years very present notions in art; which is of course not a coincidence, considering the current crisis of sustainability of life and crisis of care we are living in. Nevertheless, the question remains: what can come out of these recognitions of the changed modes of production for the immanent politics of art and its institutional environment?
