Around the biblical figure of Salome, from the mid-19th century the major nations of Europe began experimenting with a new language; not only poetic and literary, but also theatrical, musical and cinematic. The book, which has its pivot in Wilde's Salome, aims to trace its stage life, placing it in the context of redefining the entire European cultural horizon.
The approach, interdisciplinary and transnational, does not neglect temporal digressions and traces in the “before and after” Salome essential contributions to the definition of the myth of the femme fatale.
