Invitation to the Workshop: Past, Present, and Future of Asian Lacquer

Dear Colleague,

We are pleased to invite you to the workshop Past, Present, and Future of Asian Lacquer, which will take place in Pisa on February 13, 2025.

This workshop will bring together experts from various disciplines, including conservation, heritage science, art history, and chemistry, with the aim of deepening the understanding and appreciation of Asian lacquer. It will be a unique opportunity to analyze the chemical and physical properties of traditional lacquer formulations and to explore their artistic applications throughout history.

The program is designed to foster interdisciplinary dialogue, featuring contributions from international experts who will present their latest research and case studies from museums and institutions in Europe and Japan.

A special highlight of the workshop will be the plenary session led by the renowned lacquer artist Prof. Yutaro Shimode, who will also give a practical demonstration of traditional maki-e techniques.
