The teaching program, conducted in co-tutorship with Terna, will provide an in-depth analysis with high technical and strategic content on the evolution of the national electricity system, considering the challenges posed by the energy transition and the new European and Italian targets for 2030 and 2040.
Key topics include: the role of the Network Development Plan as a strategic and infrastructural guidance tool for the country; new grid architectures (e.g., Hypergrid, HVDC connections) enabled by high renewable energy penetration scenarios and the objectives of the 2030 PNIEC; systemic implications of renewable energy connection requests, the contribution of electricity storage, and the management of grid congestion; cost-benefit analysis methodologies (ACB 2.0) and criteria for selecting and prioritizing infrastructure investments; the new paradigm of efficient territorial planning, based on digital tools, regulatory simplification, and stakeholder engagement; strategic international interconnections and Italy’s role as a Euro-Mediterranean energy hub; the evolving role of the TSO in system management: resilience, digitalization, cooperation with DSOs, and enabling new energy markets.
