Seminar by Simone Caputo (Università di Roma “La Sapienza”)
13/06/2023, ore 10, Facoltà di Lettere e Filosofia
Through the analysis of case studies, the seminar intends to investigate how urban musicology and sound studies have represented the sonic space, constructing a brief history of the term soundscape up to the so-called spatial turn, which pushes beyond the idea that the soundscape is both a physical space and its representation. It is a construction that simultaneously indexes a set of sonic-spatial practices, the meta-discourses that describe them, and the cultural and sensory conditions that make it possible to experience-even passively-the sonic space in multiple ways. Accordingly, the concept of soundscape could be regarded as an artifact of discourses that construct sonic space, and that are linked to specific ways of experiencing or perceiving it.
