Research:

I graduated in Ancient Near Eastern History from Ca' Foscari University of Venice with a dissertation that investigated the ways in which the memory of the past and its ideological reinterpretation shaped the development of the Mesopotamian state during the Early Dynastic period (c. 2900–2350 BCE). More generally, my interests focus on various aspects of the political and social history of Mesopotamia in the 3rd millennium BCE.
Currently, I am a PhD Candidate at Sapienza University of Rome, working on a research project concerning the Sumerian King List (SKL). This study shifts the interpretation of the document, moving beyond the traditional view that primarily interprets it as a tool of royal propaganda. My analysis places the SKL within a broader intellectual and folkloristic tradition connected to Mesopotamian historical awareness. In this view, the text serves as a medium for conceptualizing the past in the specific form of a list, rather than through a purely discursive narrative. This formal choice raises fundamental questions about how temporality, political legitimacy, and historical continuity were conceived and represented in Mesopotamian thought. The research proceeds with an intertextual investigation into the connections between the SKL and the literary texts and royal inscriptions (both written in Sumerian), with the aim of delineating the intellectual tradition from which the document emerged.
