Research: New critical edition of the Greek and Syriac versions of the Klementia.
PHD PROJECT: The project aims to produce a new critical edition of certain sections of the Klementia, in their Greek and Syriac versions.
The edition will be accompanied by an introduction focusing on a study of the Greek and Syriac manuscript tradition, including new witnesses of the novel and highlighting the contribution of Syriac to the constitutio textus. The research will be completed by an Italian translation and an extensive philological, rhetorical and theological commentary, which will aim to define the Sitz im Leben of the text and its historical context: Syria in the 3rd/4th century AD.
The aim of the project is therefore an in-depth study of the Pseudo-Clementine novel through an innovative perspective consistent with the issues that have emerged in the last decade of research on the subject.
