Ph.D. in Economics

The Ph.D. Program in Economics at Sapienza University's Department of Economics and Law is a three-year program designed for highly motivated students with a strong interest in advanced theoretical and empirical economics. It supports the development of independent thinking and the ability to produce original, high-quality research.

Our program develops the advanced skills students need to pursue careers in academia, international policy institutions, leading research centers, and high-level analytical or managerial roles in the public and private sectors worldwide.

A distinguishing feature of the Ph.D. program is its strong focus on quantitative methods, which allows students to analyze complex economic issues using advanced tools and methodologies.

The Department of Economics and Law fosters a dynamic and stimulating environment for doctoral research. Students benefit from the faculty’s diverse research expertise and receive close mentorship from the Ph.D. Director and faculty members. The program encourages active participation in seminars, workshops, and collaborative projects that enhance the overall research experience.

Careers

The faculty provides strong support to Ph.D. candidates as they navigate both academic and non-academic job markets. Graduates are well-prepared to pursue successful careers as academic economists in universities and research institutions, as researchers and analysts in international organizations, central banks, and government agencies, and as consultants and strategists in the private sector and financial institutions.
