Strengthening and toughening mechanisms for nano-composite materials

Composite materials reinforced with nano-particles, nano-plates or nano-fibers/ nano-tubes allow for superior performance thanks to peculiar strengthening mechanisms different from standard composite materials. In order to maximize their potentiality the production of nano-composite materials has to guarantee the optimization of distribution and dispersion. Thus the proposed lesson aims to analyze the following aspects:
- Strengthening and toughening mechanisms for nano-composites materials with ceramic, metallic and polymeric matrix;
- Optimization of distribution and dispersion during the production processes;
- Examples of nano-composites materials: manufacturing and characterization.
