Research: Numismatic circulation in Roman Thessaloniki in 1st B.C. – 3rd A.D. The evidence from the Venizelou Metro Station
Vassiliki Spathopoulou is a PhD candidate in the Faculty of Arts and Philosophy, Department of Antiquities (Dipartimento di Scienze dell’Antichità) at Sapienza University of Rome (since 2023).
Her academic background is interdisciplinary, with Master’s degrees in Classical Archaeology and Ancient History of Macedonia (International Hellenic University), Education Studies: Humanities and New Technologies (University of Western Macedonia) and Cultural Informatics and Communication, with a specialization in Museum Studies (University of the Aegean). She holds a BA in History and Archaeology from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki.
Her research focuses on the intersection of archaeology, digital humanities and museum education with particular emphasis on 3D digital representations and improvement of the accessibility of cultural heritage through assistive technologies. As a recipient of the Swiss Government Excellence Scholarship at the University of Neuchâtel, she conducted a research on the digitalization of museum environments.
Vassiliki has an extensive field experience as an archaeologist, including work on the Thessaloniki Metro excavations, as well as a distinguished contribution to major digital cultural heritage projects, such as Aigai: Virtual Museum of Alexander the Great.
She is a Licensed Tourist Guide and a member of the Association of Greek Archaeologists and the Greek Museum Curators.
