Thesis title: Nanotecnologie per migliorare l’assorbimento nelle piante

Nanotechnology represents a promising research field for the development of innovative strategies aimed at enhancing nutrient uptake in plants. This thesis investigates the use of magnetite (Fe₃O₄) and ferric phosphate (FePO₄) nanoparticles as potential smart fertilizers, analyzing their effects on iron and phosphorus absorption in Solanum lycopersicum. Following detailed physicochemical characterization of the nanoparticles, experiments were conducted on seeds, seedlings, and mature plants, assessing morphological, physiological, and biochemical parameters. The results show improved nutrient uptake efficiency compared to conventional fertilizers, with positive effects on biomass, pigment content, and elemental composition of plant tissues. Furthermore, the use of functionalized biochar as a slow-release carrier for macronutrients (NPK) was explored, with a focus on release kinetics and interactions with soil. The collected data support the application of nanotechnology in sustainable agriculture, offering promising solutions to increase crop yields and reduce environmental impact.
