Research: Machine Semiotics for Women's Health: bridging the Gaps between Symptom Recognition, Image Diagnoses and AI- DSS through a Sociosemiotic Approach to Endometriosis Diagnosis for Equitable and Just Healthcare.

Tania Chauhan is a PhD candidate in Peace Studies. Her interdisciplinary academic background encompasses political science, sociology, and technology studies, with a Bachelor's degree in International Studies and a Master's degree in Organization, Society and Technology from the University of Trento, as well as an international European Science Society and Technology track at TalTech (Tallinn University of Technology). Her research interests focus on the relationship between technology and society, with particular attention to the social, institutional, and political implications of digitalization processes and the introduction of artificial intelligence into decision-making processes. Her work specifically examines how socio-technical systems produce, organize, and interpret knowledge, and the implications of these processes for equity and social justice. Her PhD project, “Machine Semiotics for Women's Health: Bridging the Gaps between Symptom Recognition, Image Diagnoses and AI-DSS through a Sociosemiotic Approach to Endometriosis Diagnosis for Equitable and Just Healthcare,” investigates the use of AI and decision-support systems in endometriosis diagnosis, adopting a sociosemiotic approach to examine the relationship between symptom recognition, the interpretation of diagnostic images, and algorithmic decision-making.
