Prof. Speranza Rubattu was born on July 3rd 1958.
She has got her medical degree in 1983 (110/110 cum laude) and subsequently the Cardiology specialty in 1987 (60/60 cum laude) at the University of Sassari.

Academic-scientific profile
From 1986 till 1990 visiting research fellow at the Cardiovascular and Hypertension Center of Cornell University Medical College-The New York Hospital (New York, USA) under the supervision of Prof. J.E.Sealey.
From 1990 till 1994 she has been carrying both research and clinical activities at the “Istituto di Medicina Interna, 1a Clinica Medica, 2a Facolta’ di Medicina e Chirurgia” at the University of Napoli, under the supervision of Prof. Mario Condorelli and Prof. Massimo Volpe.
From July 1993 till July 1994 : Fellowship from the Italian Research Council.
Summer 1993: visiting research fellow at the Laboratory of Cellular and Molecular Cardiology of Children’s Hospital, Harvard Medical School (Boston, USA), under the supervision of Prof. Klaus Lindpaintner.
From 1994 till 1997: visiting research fellow at the Department of Medicine, Cardiovascular Division, Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Harvard Medical School (Boston, USA) under the supervision of Prof. Klaus Lindpaintner.
She received a fellowship from the Italian Society of Hypertension from 1994 till 1995 and a Fullbright fellowship from 1994 till 1995.
February 1998: academic position of “Assistant professor” at the University of Rome La Sapienza.
January 2005: position of associate professor for the discipline Metodi e Didattiche delle attivita’ motorie at the University of Rome La Sapienza.
November 2008 till now: position of associate professor in Cardiology at the University of Rome "Sapienza".
Clinical activity at the Department of Cardiology, School of Medicine and Psycology, S.Andrea Hospital, Rome.
2012: National Scientific Abilitation for the position of full professor in Medicine (SSD 6N1).

1998 till now. Scientific consultant at the Institute IRCCS Neuromed, Pozzilli (Is), where she is responsibile of a research laboratory and carries her research activities.

She had been involved in the coordination of several research group activities:
the italian group for studies on the Molecular Genetics of Hypertension (Italian Society of Hypertension);
the european group Eurhypgen for the genetics of hypertension in animal models;
the italian group of the italian society of cardiology for the molecular genetics of dilated cardiomyopathy.
She is currently involved in the coordination of the italian group “Biologia Molecolare e Cellulare” of the italian society of cardiology and of the european group for the study of molecular genetics of target organ damage in hypertension (InGenious Hypercare).

Main research activities:
Circulating and local tissue renin-angiotensin systems and characterization of their role in hypertension.
Characterization of an animal model of hypertension and stroke (stroke-prone spontaneously hypertensive rat).
Molecular genetics of target organ damage in hypertension, with particular regard to cardiovascular acute events, in an animal model and in humans.
Analysis of the atrial natriuretic factor as a cardiovascular risk factor in both an animal model and in humans.
Role of mitochondrial dysfunction into the pathogenesis of target organ damage in hypertension.

Her research activity is documented by several papers published on international journals.
