Research: Ceremonial female music in Tunis
The purpose of my research project is to investigate the musical role of women in the Tunisian ceremonial context through the study and analysis of female troupes present in the city of Tunis and surrounding rural areas. The objective is, first, to contribute to shedding light on some socio-anthropological dynamics related to the construction, expression and affirmation of a gender identity in the Tunisian ceremonial context; second, on a more strictly musical level, to analyze the structures, performance contexts, performance styles, ensembles and repertoires of women's troupes, focusing on the stylistic peculiarities of the music used in the ceremonial context and analyzing the differences between the urban and rural environments.
