The evolution of business models in the energy sector has become increasingly relevant in the context of the transition towards sustainability. This research examines the ongoing transformations within the energy industry, considering market dynamics, regulatory frameworks, and the role of technological innovations in the reconfiguration of corporate strategies. Through a comprehensive literature review and empirical case analysis, the study identifies best practices and critical barriers in the implementation of sustainable business models, assessing the influence of public policies and firms' ability to adapt to new competitive paradigms. The research is structured around five main dimensions: a conceptual analysis of business models and their evolution; an in-depth examination of the specific characteristics of the energy market and the driving forces behind its transformation; a study of existing business models in the sector, with a particular focus on the integration of sustainable practices; the presentation of significant case studies and the proposal of an innovative sustainable business model; and an investigation into the strategic implications and future perspectives of the industry. The methodological approach combines qualitative analysis and case study research to highlight the structural and operational dynamics that facilitate or hinder the transition towards sustainability-oriented business models. In particular, the study explores the opportunities arising from the adoption of renewable energy sources and adherence to ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) criteria, outlining a framework to support firms in managing change. The critical analysis conducted reveals that technological innovation and business model diversification are key factors for ensuring long-term competitiveness in the energy sector. The study concludes with a reflection on the challenges and opportunities related to sustainability in the energy industry, emphasising the role of public policies and corporate strategies in accelerating the ecological transition. The contribution of this research is positioned within both theoretical and applied perspectives, offering interpretative and operational tools to navigate the complexity of a continuously evolving sector.
