Thesis title: Gli alabastri inglesi in Italia. Censimento, committenze e fortuna.

The doctoral research project aimed to catalogue English alabaster reliefs produced between the 14th and 16th centuries and currently housed in Italy. The objective was to analyze the dynamics of patronage, collecting, and conservation of this distinctive artistic production within the Italian context. This work led to the creation of the first comprehensive national catalog dedicated to medieval English alabasters, documenting over 100 reliefs associated with 30 works, including polyptychs, statues, and sculptural groups. This catalog makes a significant contribution to the study of these objects, offering a more systematic approach to their analysis and positioning within both the Italian and broader European artistic spheres. By examining specific case studies, the research further explored the circulation of these works in Italy from the 14th to the 20th centuries, with a particular focus on their use and collecting history. The methodological approach adopted allowed for a multi-faceted investigation of these phenomena, providing a more nuanced understanding of this category of artifacts, which remains relatively under-explored.
