This research project entitled “Giuseppe Fava’s Theatre. Fava bequest: Disclosure and Analysis” aims to fully recover all the theatrical work of the author – Catania Giuseppe Fava Foundation’s Archive, - in order to analyze its dramaturgy and to investigate the nature of its theater traceable to political and ethical theatre. The author, killed by the mafia on 5 January 1984 in front of the Permanent Theatre in Catania, as well as being a journalist, writer and screenwriter, he was first and foremost a playwright and Ultima Violenza (1983) became his artistic testament. The aim of the research is to identify how his poetics and theatrical vision reflect the political and artistic contemporary that inspired him. We will investigate the forms and techniques of theatrical writing, based on the "theatre of words" and the "pre-eminence of the text", in order to trace scenic norms and traces of "wide captions" in stage scripts and performances, performed by the Theatre company of Catania, led by the actor Turi Ferro. We will investigate, therefore, in particular the relationship between text and acting, the contamination of the different languages of the scene, the roots, the theatrical influences and the diachronic and synchronic comparison with other authors in order to identify differences and convergences that will define the role of Fava in the Italian theatrical history of the late twentieth century, from which he was almost marginalized.
