Paolo Guglielmi is currently an Associate Professor of Medicinal Chemistry (CHEM-07/A) at the Department of Chemistry and Technology of Drugs of Sapienza University of Rome.

Education and Academic Career
In 2014, he obtained a Master’s degree (magna cum laude) in Drug Chemistry and Technologies at Sapienza University of Rome. In the following year, he was awarded a research fellowship at the Department of Chemistry and Technology of Drugs of the same university. In 2018, he obtained a PhD in Pharmaceutical Sciences with honors, developing research projects focused on the design, synthesis, and biological evaluation of novel enzyme inhibitors with potential therapeutic applications in oncology and neurodegenerative diseases. In 2019, he carried out postdoctoral research at the same Department, where he was appointed as a fixed-term researcher (RTD-A) in Medicinal Chemistry in the same year, followed by a position as RTD-B in 2022.

Research Activity and Scientific Interests
Prof. Guglielmi’s research activity is focused on medicinal chemistry and drug discovery, with particular emphasis on the rational design of bioactive molecules. His main research areas include: • development of monoamine oxidase (MAO) inhibitors for the treatment of neurodegenerative diseases (e.g., Parkinson’s disease); • design of selective carbonic anhydrase inhibitors (hCA IX and XII) involved in cancer; • discovery and development of novel antitumor compounds, including targets such as kinesin Eg5; • development of metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) for biomedical applications and drug delivery. These research activities have resulted in 56 publications, including peer-reviewed articles and book chapters in indexed journals, with over 1400 total citations (H-index: 24).

Teaching Activity
Prof. Guglielmi is currently the lecturer for the courses Pharmaceutical and Toxicological Chemical Analysis I and III within the Master’s degree in Drug Chemistry and Technologies (Latina).
