Full Professor of Structural Design. Laurea and PhD degrees from Sapienza, Master of Science from University of California, Berkeley. My research in the broader field of Earthquake Engineering focuses on Seismic Risk and Resilience Assessment of Structural and Infrastructural Systems. I teach Seismic Design and Assessment to Engineering and Architecture students.
I am a member of fib, the International Federation for Structural Concrete, Convener of the TG2.7 Seismic Design and Member of Action Group on Seismic design of TG10 "Model Code 2020" (formerly I was a member in Commission 7 Seismic Design 2012-2016). I am also a member of: IASSAR, the International Association for Structural Safety and Reliability (Technical Committee 3: System Reliability and Optimization); the Scientific Committee of the EUCENTRE Foundation as well as a faculty of the European School in Reduction of Seismic Risk, both in Pavia.
I was member of the Project team CEN/TC250/SC8/T3 for the revision of Eurocode 8 Part 3 "Assessment and retrofitting of buildings" and I currently lead the Project team CEN/TC250/SC8/T6 for the revision of Eurocode 8 Part 2 " Design of structures for earthquake resistance - Part 2: Bridges" and the general reorganization of Eurocode 8. I am also a member of the CEN/TC250/SC10/AHG Ad hoc group on "Reliability bases of the Eurocodes".
I am a member of the Editorial Board of Earthquake Engineering & Structural Dynamics (Wiley), Soil Dynamics and Earthquake Engineering (Elsevier) and Sustainable and Resilient Infrastructures (Taylor & Francis).
I have extensive consulting experience for the seismic design, assessment and retrofit of existing bridges and buildings.
