Paolo Chiesa is chair professor of Medieval Latin Literature at the University of Milan (from 2006), after teaching in University of Udine (1992-2006). He and received the doctorate in Medieval Latin hilology from the University of Florence. He has studied the techniques and methods of translation in the early Middle Ages in their theoretical and practical aspects, and he has published many critical editions of mediaeval Latin works translated from Greek. His research interests concern philology and textual criticism. He has recently published critical editions of the works of Liudprand of Cremona, of Bonvesin da la Riva's 'De magnalibus Mediolani' and of William of Rubruk's 'Itinerarium', and a commented edition of Dante's 'Monarchia' (with Andrea Tabarroni). He is Editorial Director of the journal "Filologia mediolatina" member of the Scientific Board of several journals, series and societies; member of Boards of Directors in Fondazione Lorenzo Valla and in Società Internazionale per lo Studio del Medioevo Latino; korrispondierender Mitgleid of "Monumenta Germaniae Historica. He was General Manager for Teaching in University of Udine (2001-2003); Director in Department of History and Cultural Heritage in the same University (2000-2003); Dean of the Cours of Literature in Humanities Faculty in University of Milan (2008-2012). He is now (from 2019, March) Dean of the Courses of Literature (bach.), Modern Literature and Classics (master) in the University of Milan.
