Thesis title: NATURE IN CITTÀ VS DENSITÀ URBANA? IL CASO STUDIO DELLA PETITE CEINTURE DI PARIGI
The research investigates the relationship between natures in the city and urban density, overcoming the traditional opposition between contrasting settlement models. Starting from a critical reinterpretation of the meaning of natures in the city in light of the ecological crisis, the thesis proposes to consider them not as residual elements, but as active and structuring infrastructures capable of influencing environmental, social, and spatial processes.
At the same time, density is reinterpreted not as a mere quantitative parameter, but as a morphological property closely connected to environmental sustainability and the performance of urban space. Within this framework, the research develops the concept of an alliance between natures and density, grounded in the triad of frugal density, systemic nature, and collective intelligence.
Through a theoretical-critical approach and the analysis of the case study of the Petite Ceinture in Paris, the thesis demonstrates how disused infrastructures can be reinterpreted as ecological devices and spaces of proximity, capable of activating processes of urban regeneration and the construction of new forms of community.
The ultimate aim is to contribute to the definition of new settlement models in which urban density and natures coexist in an integrated way, promoting more resilient, sustainable, and inclusive forms of city.
