Research: Statistical methods for the study of safety in the operating room: Analysis of compliance and complications risk using data from a local health unit in Italy

Personal information:
PhD student in Statistics for the Economy. Graduated first in Economics and Management at the University of Bologna, and then in Health Economics at Sapienza University, I work with statistical analyses in the healthcare sector.
My research concerns safety in the operating room through the use of the Surgical Safety Checklist developed by WHO. The aim of my work is to analyse healthcare data and develop models as tools for healthcare facilities, to improve patients health.

Research abstract:
The proposed research concerns the analysis on the WHO Surgical Safety Checklist (SSC) use and non-conformities (NC) in the Italian Local Health Unit of Modena. The objectives are: i) investigating the factors associated with NC risk; ii) identifying checklist-related factors associated with the risk of surgery complications; iii) examining direct and indirect effects of negligence on complications risk through a mediation analysis; iv) developing a predictive model for surgery complications as a tool to provide to clinicians to build further safety guidelines.
