Michela Venditti (Ph.D., University of Rome “La Sapienza”) taught at the University of Rome “La Sapienza” and at the University of L’Aquila, and is now an associate professor of Russian literature at the University of Naples “L’Orientale”. She has published extensively, both in Italian and in international journals, on eighteenth-century Russian literature, on the sacred lyrics of Deržavin, and on the theory and practice of translation in the eighteenth century, with comparative analyses of texts by M. Cheraskov, Voltaire, and N. Karamzin. Her scholarly work also embraces Russian philosophy of the early twentieth century, especially the work of G.G. Špet, and the first wave of Russian emigration, particularly the writer Gajto Gazdanov. She has presented at many national and international scholarly conferences. She has participated in several international scholarly projects, such as the Russian-German project aimed at the editing of archival material from the Russian emigration journal Sovremennye Zapiski; the Russian-German project about the editing of archival material from GAChN (v. http://dbs.rub.de/gachn/index.php); the German project aimed at creating a lexicon of pseudonyms of the first wave of Russian emigration. In addition to her academic and scholarly work, she has also been active since 1990 as a translator for Italia-Urss, RAI (Enciclopedia Multimediale delle scienze filosofiche), FAO, and for such major publishers as Editori Riuniti, Laterza, and Marsilio. She regularly contributes book reviews to scholarly journals Russica Romana, Studi Slavistici, Europa Orientalis and to the daily Il Manifesto.
