Research: Towards a new governance: smart weapons and international law, military progress or dehumanisation of conflicts?

PhD candidate in Peace Studies in Curriculum 1 - Technology, Sustainability and Peace. Marta Durin holds a Master's degree in Peace Studies, Conflict Transformation and Development Cooperation (University of Pisa). Through international academies, such as the Hiroshima-ICAN Academy of Hiroshima Prefecture and the Youth Leader Fund for a World Without Nuclear Weapons programme of the United Nations Office for Disarmament Affairs (UNODA), she specialised in arms control, non-proliferation and humanitarian disarmament. She has worked and collaborated with international campaigns such as the International Campaign to Ban Landmines - Cluster Munition Coalition (ICBL-CMC) and Youth for TPNW. She has been collaborating for years with the Women's International League for Peace and Freedom (WILPF) as coordinator of the international working group on disarmament and demilitarisation, coordinator of the youth network (Young WILPF), and co-coordinator of nuclear disarmament awareness projects in Italy. She is currently attending the Emerging Expert in Arms Control programme of the Forum on the Arms Trade. Previously, she worked as Digital Advocacy officer and specialised in communication for international organisations, communication for peace, and analysis of war propaganda.
