Marta D’Andrea è Professore Associato per il Settore scientifico-disciplinare L-OR/05 (Archeologia e storia dell’arte del Vicino Oriente antico) presso il Dipartimento di Scienze dell’Antichità. Presso la Sapienza Università di Roma ha anche conseguito la Laurea Triennale in Scienze Archeologiche, la Laurea Specialistica in Archeologia e il Dottorato di ricerca in Archeologia. È stata borsista di post-dottorato presso l’Accademia Nazionale dei Lincei e, in seguito, assegnista di ricerca e poi Ricercatore a tempo determinato di tipo B presso il Dipartimento di Scienze dell’Antichità della Sapienza Università di Roma.
Collabora con diversi progetti internazionali allo studio di materiali ceramici da numerosi siti del Levante, ha partecipato a numerosi scavi italiani e internazionali nell’area levantina (Gerico in Palestina; Khirbat al-Batrawy, Jabal al-Mutawwaq, Barqa Landscape Project, Khirbat Iskandar in Giordania; Ebla in Siria) e nel 2019 ha preso parte alla survey libanese-italiana nelle regioni di Shawakeer e Ras el-Ain in Libano. È membro della Missione Archeologica Italiana in Siria della Sapienza e dell’Ebla Project, per il quale è anche responsabile delle pubblicazioni. Dal 2015 ha co-diretto il Madaba Regional Archaeological Museum Project (MRAMP), in Giordania, ed è la co-direttrice della Missione Archeologica a Khirbat Iskandar, sempre in Giordania. Dal 2021 codirige anche il Progetto Libanese-Italiano nella Regione di Tiro, in Libano.
Le sue pubblicazioni scientifiche includono più di 70 articoli scientifici e contributi in volume come autrice e co-autrice, due curatele (Ebla and Beyond, 2018; Pearls of the Past, 2019) e una monografia in due volumi che raccoglie la pubblicazione in inglese della sua tesi di dottorato sul Bronzo Antico IV del Levante meridionale (Contributi e Materiali di Archeologia Orientale XVII [2014], 2015). È membro del comitato di redazione delle riviste Studia Eblaitica e Contributi e Materiali di Archeologia Orientale, del Scientific board della rivista Vicino Oriente e del comitato scientifico della serie Materiali e Studi Archeologici di Ebla. Ha partecipato all’organizzazione di mostre (Siria Splendore e Dramma, Roma, Palazzo Venezia, 2014; Rinascere dalle Distruzioni, Roma, Colosseo, 2017) e convegni (Archeologia del Culto e del Sacro – Giornata di Studio su Ebla e la Siria, Accademia dei Lincei, 2013; Ebla and Beyond, Sapienza Università di Roma, 2014) è stata Co-Chair della Sessione Permanente dell’ASOR Annual Meeting “Archaeology of Jordan” (trienni 2017-2019 e 2020-2022), ed è Co-Chair del workshop “Preserving the Cultural Heritage of the Madaba Region of Jordan” (2019-2022, 2023-2025).
Ha tenuto seminari su invito presso il Cotsen Institute for Archaeology della UCLA di Los Angeles, la Maison de l’Orient et de la Méditerranée di Lione, l'Institut für die Kulturen des Alten Orients della Eberhard Karls Universität di Tübingen, la IULM e l’Università Statale di Milano, l'Università Carolina di Praga e conferenze presso l’ACOR di Amman, il CNR di Roma e l’Istituto Archeologico Germanico di Berlino e per la (International Association for Archaeological Research in Western & Central Asia (ARWA).
I suoi interessi di ricerca includono i processi di formazione, crisi o collasso e rigenerazione dell’urbanizzazione nel Levante nel Bronzo Antico e Medio, gli studi di cultura materiale, la ceramica levantina, lo studio delle competenze tecnologiche nel passato, lo studio delle forme di connettività, interculturalità e costruzione delle identità sociali nelle società del passato, le forme di scambio e commercio e, più recentemente, l’archeologia pubblica e le strategie di salvaguardia del patrimonio culturale. E' responsabile delle unità di ricerca della Sapienza per i progetti PRIN 2022 "The Price of Progress. A Multidisciplinary Research on Human-Environment Interactions in the Levant at the Dawn of Urbanism (3500-2000 BCE)" e PRIN 2022 PNRR "Cultural Itineraries in Lebanon (CIL). Community Engagement, archaeological site and the accessibility to the cultural landscape in Northern and Southern Lebanon".
