I am professor of "Museology, art criticism and restoration" at the Ca 'Foscari University of Venice. I focused my interests on museology and history of restoration and its implications with art criticism, in particular for the eighteenth century.
I studied museums of antiquities in Rome between the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, following the theoretical and practical aspects of the restoration of the ancient sculptures. Recently I started a research on Anton Maria Zanetti the Younger (1706-1778), art critic of recognized importance, historiographic model for Luigi Lanzi, first Inspector of public paintings in the city of Venice in the eighteenth century As a member of the Italian research group I participated in a project of the European Community “Historical Archive of the European Conservator-Restorers. Archivio Storico dei Restauratori Europei” (Project CLT2005/A1/CH/IT-302). I am member of the Scientific Committee of the "Le Voci del museo" published by Edifir of Florence and of the Editorial Committee of the "Venezia Arti" magazine; I am referee for the projects FIRB and PRIN of the Ministry of University and Research, of the review "Il Capitale Culturale / Studies on the Value of Cultural Heritage" and for “MDCCC" review. Since the first years of my research, I got interested both in archival investigations and in digital tools aimed at the study of the history of art. I increased considerable experience in the digital processing of sources for history restoration and art history, both participating in the creation of several national and international databases, and more recently with innovative digital tools.
I won a PRIN project for the period 2014-2017 ("The life of the works: from sources to digital") and as responsible of the research unit of the University of Ca 'Foscari I coordinated the investigations on the conservative history of some art works of the Gallerie dell’Accademia and the Museum of Oriental Art in Venice. At the same time, I have carried out some experimental projects for the digital diffusion of the scientific contents of the history of art both within museums and in other art historical contexts. I supervised the development of a smartphone app currently used at the Gallerie dell’Accademia and at the Museum of Oriental Art in Venice; I am coordinating a project for virtual restoration of the paintings by Giambattista Tiepolo in the Ca 'Dolfin in Venice in mixed reality with holographic viewers in collaboration with Microsoft Italy.
