Research: Mapping and reconstructing the invisible: an ArchaeoBIM for the Byzantine District of the Pythion of Gortyn, Crete
Master's degree at the University of Siena, with a thesis in Byzantine Archaeology entitled "The Byzantine Quarter of the Pythion of Gortina: Three-Dimensional Reconstruction for a New Spatial Reading".
My research areas include applications of 3D documentation systems, the use of APRs for archaeological surveying, and the study of the Early Byzantine city. I manage the survey and documentation by drone in the excavations of the University of Siena at Vignale (LI) and at the Byzantine Quarter of the Pythion of Gortina (Crete). I am involved in the communication project as a founding member of the Let's Dig Again association.
Since 2016 I participate in the public archaeology project "Uomini e Cose a Vignale" and in the archaeological research of the University of Siena at the site of Vignale (LI). I am in charge of the APR photogrammetric survey phases and the graphic documentation of the excavation. The scientific direction is by Professors Elisabetta Giorgi and Enrico Zanini.
Between October 2017 and December 2018, I took part in the public archaeology project "Percorsi BioGrafici" at the municipality of Monforte San Giorgio (ME). I was in charge of the documentation activities of the architectural elements of the urban fabric of the city and the communication activities on social channels and collaboration with local realities.
Since 2018, I participate in the archaeological research of the University of Siena at the Byzantine Quarter of the Python in the site of Gortina (Crete, Greece), in collaboration with the Italian Archaeological School of Athens. I am in charge of the APR photogrammetric survey, graphic documentation and three-dimensional reconstructions of the structures. The scientific direction is by Professor Enrico Zanini.
Since 2020, I have been organising the Spring Archaeology conference, addressed to young researchers working in the archaeological field in Italy, with a focus on multidisciplinary projects.
